In order to understand the perspective and needs of Colorado small business owners regarding the impact of alcohol and drugs in the workplace, a descriptive study was conducted in 2000, using a convenience sample of 125 small businesses who responded to a telephone survey. Below you will find a link to that study.
Small Business Needs Assessment 2000
What is Team Awareness (TA)?
Team Awareness is a SAMHSA Model Workplace Program recognized as effective in reducing substance use and increasing helping behaviors. TA is an experiential training program, designed to be taught within workplaces.
TA has three primary functions, depending on the intensity of the training.
- enhanced drug free workplace program
- adjunct to any team building or communication program
- a work culture intervention, helping to replace cultures that enable problem behaviors
How is Team Awareness presented?
TA has three main components:
- focus groups to allow customization
- supervisor training
- employee training
How much does it cost to bring TA to my company?
The primary cost will be related to employee time, and any replacement needed during the training sessions. It is expected that the employer will provide a safe and secure meeting space and snacks during the training. PAS will provide the trainer/s, materials and presentation equipment for the sessions.
What must my business do to implement TA training?
Essentially the business needs to make time available for employees to meet in groups. The original TA model consisted of eight hours of employee training, plus at least two hours for a small group of representative employees to meet in a focus group format a few weeks prior to the training. Since the initial research, TA has been modified and many different presentation time structures are used.
