PRESCRIPTION DRUG ABUSE PREVENTION PROGRAM
PAIN PATIENTS
If you are taking pain medication you should be aware that other people maybe interested in stealing your medications. Here are some things to think about.
• Where do you keep your medications?
 - Lock up or hide medications
 – Do NOT store medications in the medicine cabinet or kitchen cabinets
• Monitor the drugs in your home
  - Track and count how many pills you have
 - Don’t stockpile meds, buy and discard as needed
• Do not discuss medications you are taking. Other than talking to your physician or pharmacist no one else needs to know that information.
• Who else lives with you? Are there teens or young adults that could find your medication? Are other people coming in and out of your home? Is your home for sale?  All things to consider regarding where you keep your prescriptions drugs.
• Keep in mind that sharing prescription medications is illegal and can be deadly.
